Zenith
El Primero
Why It Matters
The tonneau-cased pair from the El Primero's 1969 debut. Both the reference A384 and the reference A385 share a 37mm square-barrel steel case, the automatic caliber 3019 PHC, a chronograph with tachymeter and a date at 4:30, and both are distinct from the round A386. Their dials are not the same: the A384 carries a white 'panda' dial with black registers, while the A385 carries a smoked-brown gradient 'fumé' dial. Production begins in 1969; the end year is hedged, with Zenith framing the icons as 1969 to 1972 and trade sources ending the run around 1971. Because the two dials are distinct, an image of one sibling does not represent the other.
