Vacheron Constantin
222
Why It Matters
Vacheron Constantin's answer to the integrated-steel-sports moment. Launched in 1977 for the maison's 222nd anniversary and designed by the then-young Jörg Hysek (long misattributed to Gérald Genta), the 222 wraps an ultra-thin automatic caliber 1121 in a one-piece monobloc case with a fluted screw-down bezel, a date at three and a Maltese cross applied at five o'clock. The 37mm 'Jumbo' ref. 44018 was produced in steel, two-tone and yellow gold.
