Jaeger-LeCoultre
Polaris
Why It Matters
Jaeger-LeCoultre's alarm diver. Built around the automatic caliber K825 in a roughly 42mm steel case, the Polaris reference E859 combines an alarm, a date and central seconds under three crowns, with an internal rotating dive bezel and a pierced sixteen-hole caseback that lets the alarm be heard underwater. The reference spans executions from 1965 through 1967 and 1968, with a later 1970 'Calypso' dial, so it is not a single 1968 watch; roughly 1,714 examples are reported in the archives, though the terminal year varies between sources and the figure is not an exact undisputed count. United States market examples carry a 'LeCoultre' dial, European examples 'Jaeger-LeCoultre'.
