Masashi Kishimoto's first collected Naruto volume introduces the young ninja's ambition to become Hokage. Shueisha published the Japanese volume in March 2000. This opening volume is a publication milestone separate from the series' magazine debut. An individual copy's printing, completeness and condition determine which physical edition is being collected.
