Hiromu Arakawa's first collected Fullmetal Alchemist volume begins the series in book form. Enix published the Japanese volume in January 2002. This opening volume is a publication milestone separate from the series' magazine debut. Edition and printing must be established from an individual copy; a volume-one cover alone does not prove a first printing.
