Kentaro Miura's first collected Berserk volume begins the series in book form. Hakusensha published the Japanese volume in November 1990. This opening volume is a publication milestone separate from the series' magazine debut. Edition and printing must be established from an individual copy; a volume-one cover alone does not prove a first printing.
